The World Games – the Non-Olympic Sports-Games is an international event organized by the International World Games Association, first held in 1981 and take place every four years in the year following the Olympic Games. The 10th edition of the event will take place in Wrocław this year!
Between 20 and 30 July, over 3500 athletes and officials from more than 100 countries will come to the capital of the Lower Silesia. So, if you are sports enthusiasts, check your calendar and book the tickets to Wroclaw. It’s a perfect opportunity to combine a summer relax with this exciting event.
The World Games participants will compete in more than 30 disciplines, 4 of them have been chosen by the host city viz. American football, kick-boxing, indoor rowing and speedway. Other include air sports - gliding aerobatics, parachuting; water sports - water ski and wakeboard; and dance styles such as hot salsa and energetic rock 'n' roll. There will also be lesser known sports, albeit equally interesting and intriguing: petanque (boules sport), ultimate frisbee (flying disc), roller speed skating, outdoor archery and beach handball.
It has been 4 years since the capital of the Lower Silesia started preparing to host The World Games 2017. Some new sports facilities are being developed which after the event ends they are about to be used by Wroclaw citizens. The historical Olympic Stadium is being redeveloped entirely especially for that occasion. A modern swimming pool facility is being constructed next to Hala Orbita and the swimming pool at Wejherowska Street is being renovated. In addition to that, a real roller drome is being developed in Park Tysiaclecia. The competitions are organized in the stadiums and sports halls, namely at the Pergola and Centennial Hall, Nowy Targ Square and at the Szymanów Airport.
